In the beautiful suburb of Avalon on the Northern Beaches, a group of like minded people have built a garden to grow organic vegetables. The garden was created in 2010. It has been nurtured and developed by an enthusiastic team of local volunteers. ACG ‘s primary purpose is to encourage and facilitate community gardening on a not for profit basis with the purpose of growing vegetables, herbs, plants and flowers practicing sustainable gardening techniques.
Since its inception, the garden has grown in terms of infrastructure, variety of produce and diversity of membership. Members enjoy growing pesticide free food; being part of a connected and resilient community; improving well being; increasing physical activity and reducing stress; opportunity to interact meaningfully; time for relaxation and reflection; connecting with nature and practising recycling and sustainability.
Throughout 2020, during these difficult times of isolation, the garden has been a go to place for many members, for the sanity, exercise , connection with nature, following Council guidelines of social distancing and numbers.. We look forward to sharing out garden with the wider community.
