Our garden a year ago was neat lawn and hedges, and we were keen to plant trees. We began with a lime tree sapling and a no-dig habitat of bird-attracting natives, inspired by The Habitat, Denistone. I attended my first Edible Garden Trail 2020, did an introductory Permaculture course and began watching Gardening Australia.
Our back and front yards demonstrate what a beginner gardener can learn and do, a year on from being inspired by their local Edible Garden Trail. We started composting and added solar panels. We have a food forest of fruit trees in the front, edibles in raised garden beds (of recycled plastic) and climbing edibles shading our deck, edible flowers in pots, a small herb area, a vegetable patch, and a bush tucker area out the back.
