Some people have asked us – what are the benefits of being involved as a garden host on the trail?
Here’s what we tell them!
- You get to meet like minded people, your tribe!
- It’s a buzz showing people your garden and sharing your passion and knowledge for growing fruit and veggies
- You also learn more about growing food from interested visitors to your garden, there’s a wealth of knowledge out there.
- You go in the draw for prizes from our sponsors that are specifically for garden hosts
- You can sell seedlings and plants to raise money for your local cause
- You contribute to your community by helping to build more school and community gardens (profits from the sale of tickets go towards our grants program)
- You also get to vote on the short list of applicants for our annual grants program, to decide who will receive funds
- You get to see your garden through the eyes of others, and to help newbies on the start of their gardening journey.
- Your gardens are uploaded onto our website and some will also feature in our YouTube channel. In the past, this exposure has resulted in some of our participating gardens being selected as a feature garden or story in newspapers, as a feature garden on ABC’s Gardening Australia, and we even had an advertiser contact us looking for a garden that they can use in their ads! - You might get a surprise visit from Costa. He’s been seen in a few of our open gardens in the past doing a live video feed![2]
- We host an informal thank you event for our garden hosts after the trail weekend, which you’re invited to! We hold a crop swap as part of the event, and it’s a great opportunity to meet people with similar interests.
