Here we have a keen gardener who experiences all the joys and sorrows of gardening. As many people know, renting in Sydney is already a challenging situation, often not assisted by landlords and real estate agents who can discourage tenants from even having pots on a balcony, let alone using the common garden space for growing.
Neighbours and a flatmate encouraged this gardener to apply for a nature strip plot from North Sydney Council. Meeting Hugh Goodman, the Streets live co-ordinator, helped identify goals and that an edible garden was the solution. Unfortunately the soil was not conducive to growing edible plants so a new plan was hatched! Today there are two raised garden beds containing pots, limiting plant access to the soil below. A wide range of fruits and vegetables have been grown here showing what can be achieved through adversity.
