Our communal, organic garden started with a meeting in May 2012. We work together to grow herbs and vegetables in communal plots and share all the produce.
Our garden has around thirty garden beds and tubs in all, some of which are wicking beds to help save water. We use rainwater for irrigation. We have seventeen compost bins, twelve worm farms and some worm towers and also host a native stingless beehive. We try to grow our plants from organic seeds and seeds we save ourselves and use heritage varieties, where possible.
There are informative labels on many of our plants so garden members and passers by can learn more about what we grow. Our garden is successful as a productive garden, a community hub and a lovely place to just sit and spend time. It works because of the enthusiastic and committed people who take part in our weekly communal gardening sessions.
