Sydney City Farm is a place to learn about urban agriculture and sustainable food production. Volunteers are involved in everything we do at the farm. They plant the seeds in the nursery, nurture all our crops, and collect the harvest which is donated to local food charities. Farm education programs are regularly offered including small group horticulture and food production workshops, hands-on sessions with industry experts, and sustainability talks and webinars.
The farm includes a:
• cropping area where we organically grow fresh seasonal vegetables, herbs and fruits in pots and planters. Over 210 unique vegetable crops were harvested last year.
• fruit orchard with over 80 trees, shrubs and vines suited to Sydney’s climate. Some are planted in different growing styles like pleaching and espalier.
• community hub featuring floristry and agroforestry demonstration plants, and flowering pollinator attracting plants in native and exotic displays.
• themed demonstration gardens planted in repurposed skip bins including a bush foods display and agricultural crop display.
You can wander around the farm yourself or enjoy a guided tour to hear about the site history and discover the fresh food our volunteers are currently growing.
