STORY

Since 2019 we have been transforming our standard suburban block into a permaculture garden where our family, friends and neighbours can enjoy its beauty and bounty. The garden’s primary purpose it to improve our connection to nature, increase biodiversity and grow an abundance of nutrient dense food.
You’ll find the usual suspects in our edible garden including fruit trees, annual veggies, herbs, and flowers grown in a variety of ways.
There is abundant habitat for local fauna coupled with the introduction of a native stingless bee hive and a small flock of quails housed in an earth-built aviary. Quails are proving to be a great alternative to chickens for small backyards, particularly those with soil contamination challenges like ours. We adore them as productive pets!
We love front yard gardening as this is where we connect with our community. You won’t see grass in our front yard, this is now dedicated to food and flower growing and we’re slowing counting down the years until our boys finally relinquish the backyard soccer field.
Failed crops, children’s soccer balls, possums, rats, fruit fly, white butterfly, it’s an ongoing challenge but we wouldn’t have it any other way. As we work in the garden, the garden works on us!
