Learn how to grow A LOT of food in a small space. We started with a small 9 metre square piece of lawn at the back of our Parramatta townhouse, and now we grow all the food shown in the picture. We eat nearly all our vegetables and herbs straight from the garden, and some fruit too: figs, raspberries, strawberries, mandarins, lemons and finger limes. Fresh food you’ve grown yourself not only tastes better, it has almost no food miles and you know it’s free from pesticides and herbicides.
Learn how to maximise space using climbing plants like beans to grow up a trellis. Get free climbing zucchini seeds to try.
Hard clay soil, common in the Parramatta LGA? Grow in pots or learn how to build up healthy soil in your garden beds.
If you’re already growing your own food, learn how to save seeds.
See the grape arbor we’ve created, which very effectively provides shade in summer and sun winter.
Lots of upcycled products, like old holey socks used to tie tomatoes to stakes, plastic punnets from tomatoes used as kloshes to protect small seedlings. Everything is reused in my garden, and anything we don’t eat goes in the compost bin.
