STORY

The Pemulwuy Community Garden is a young, evolving space created to show how food can be grown sustainably in a suburban setting while strengthening community connections. Inspired by local residents who wanted to transform unused land into a productive, welcoming place, the garden was founded on the belief that growing food together builds both skills and relationships.

Our garden features a diverse mix of growing methods, including raised beds, swales, DIY wicking pots, trellis arches, banana groves, and container plantings. These elements highlight water‑wise design, small‑space growing, vertical gardening, and soil‑building techniques that visitors can adapt at home.

We are currently expanding our growing area by developing terraced spaces that will become a dedicated fruit orchard and native edible garden. Looking ahead, we plan to increase our educational workshops, strengthen partnerships with local schools and organisations, and create more biodiversity‑friendly zones such as pollinator corridors and habitat plantings. Through these efforts, we aim to keep growing a space that nourishes both people and place.
