Our school offers Agriculture as a subject and we cover a range of agricultural enterprises including poultry, sheep, cattle and veg and fruit production. We also dabble in aquaculture, having built our own system out of recycled materials, and we have an apiary where we maintain bees and produce some of the best honey in the country.
Our site is constantly changing with whatever projects the students are pursuing, and we are currently in the finishing stages of building our new agricultural building and learning centre. Regardless of the season, we guarantee that there will be something of interest to the home gardener, either vegetable or flower.
We have a big focus on sustainability and, in particular, soil health. We have built literally metres of soil using organic waste (grass cuttings, vegetable waste and leaf mulch) as the primary base. Add to this the manure produced by our livestock and we have some of the best soils in Sydney.
We are the host site for the Cumberland Bee Club and the school has its own bee hives which can be available for inspection on the day. If there is interest and time, we can demonstrate the honey extraction process.
