STORY

Matthew and Katerina began their garden, using permaculture principles, when they moved in at the end of 2017.
The front yard has been set up as habitat for native animals and if you look carefully you will find it is intermingled with bush tucker plants. As you walk along the side of the house, past the kitchen herb garden you will come out into a backyard that has been transformed from a lawn into productive space with a mix of fruit trees, vegetables and herbs all intermingled together. At the very back you will find the hot compost bays, which, along with the banana circle and worm farm, are used to help manage waste and minimize what leaves the property. In the other back corner, you’ll find quails and a chicken coop. Along that side fence is a hidden chicken run leading down to the side of the house. Whilst they lost their European bees to varoa mite, they still have an active native bee hive helping to pollonate the garden.
