Mackie Lane Community Garden was started by a group of local enthusiasts in 2008-2009. Both gardens enjoy support from Mosman Council our 40+ members and the broader community. Ausgrid made land available that was a sub-station which has been sealed. As a result all the beds and pots are above ground making gardening less back-bending! In all the garden has approximately 60m² beds initially made from re-cycled wooden palings on pallets and over 100 pots. Over the last ten years the garden has doubled in size and developed further with the addition of two sheds a rotunda a greenhouse solar electricity and a 13 000 water tank harvesting water from the neighbouring Midas garage. Worm farms composting and wicking techniques all help meet the gardens sustainability objective. Recently beds showing wear and tear have been replaced with reconditioned IBCs fashioned into wicking beds. The garden has the capacity to allow us to grow a wide range of flowers herbs fruit and seasonal vegetables. From galangal and curry leaf tree through to everyday herbs tomatoes strawberries eggplant chillis Visit us or check our website mosmancommunitygardeners.com.au – or on facebook
