It’s been three years since we turned a weed-covered hill into a thriving community garden with over 200 different edible plants – exotic and native, herbs and fruit trees; most locally propagated, donated or rescued.
There are no individual plots, it’s a shared space; with a series of chaotic garden beds (no-dig, hügelkultur, raised) created from recycled materials and based on sustainable and organic practices.
An important part of our mission has been to build a sense of community – our gate is never locked. Local preschools regularly explore; a group of young adults with special needs keep the garden watered; Girl Guides earn their badges with special garden projects; families pop in to pick strawberries.
We offer workshops, curate art installations, share produce from our own gardens and coordinate special events to mark the solstices and cultural celebrations.
Our vision is to add a shed, create a self-guided sensory tour, regenerate the native bush around us; and continue to create a place for exploration, innovation and inspiration.
