Manly Vale Community Garden began with a gorilla gardening project by nearby community members on three vacant house lots. Following a demand for gardening and play in the area, the community garden and Corbett playground were built at the same location by Warringah Council in 2010. Since its launch, the garden has been thriving with the hard work of volunteer members who enjoy growing their own organic produce and ornamental plants, being outside, building on their skills, and sharing recipes or stories. The garden space started with many raised beds, in-ground growing space, an undercover area and shed. Over the years, the group has expanded on its composting station and worm farms and have welcomed a greenhouse. In the near future, we are planning on giving the space a makeover; to improve accessibility and increase its productivity. Long term, we would like to continue our promotion of living sustainably by encouraging gardeners of all experience levels.
