Welcome to my garden of some 20 years situated on the challenging sandhills of Matravile. The colourful front yard, incorporating the verge, is dedicated the local wild life with lots of insect/bird friendly plants ranging from OZ natives including a macadamia tree (from which I harvested 2 kilos of macadamias last year), to the popular bee attracting poppies and the fragrant Ispahan rose.
The backyard is designed to allow my chickens to free range all year round. I have four main veggie patches where I rotate my seasonal veggies and herbs as well as space outside the veggie patches for fruit trees. I had a great crop of ruby grapefruit last year.
I am always working on new backyard projects to make the most of my horizontal and vertical garden spaces for such delicious treats as my panama passionfruit. My latest project is redesigning one of my gardens just for herbs.
Some of my garden features include water tanks, 6 composting bins, frog ponds, grey water recycling, my lovely chickens, a fox proof hen house and native bees. Unfortunately, our honey bees succumbed to varroa which was devastating.
I have a nice spot outside where we can enjoy a brew of home made tea and a chat about edible gardens. Happy gardening
