STORY

Three passionate locals who all live in units had a desire to start a viable and welcoming community garden. Over an 18-month period, they persisted in their journey to get a community garden up and running. This included working with the council to have a Community Gardening Policy for the LGA, working with a local councillor passionate about all things gardening, assessing possible site options, door knocking, and having their proposal supported by Lane Cove council.
The bespoke garden beds were built by a Social Enterprise called Habitat Women. A program that supports disadvantaged women. The beds were made and built by the cohorts in HW program according to council guidelines.
The crew at WaterUps personally came out to the site to ensure that the installation went smoothly. WaterUps is an Australian company that ensures that its products are all food-safe and come from fully recyclable materials.
The vision for a shared community space to grow food, create connections with other locals that would be welcoming to all people, including their pets has now been realised. With the help of a team of enthusiastic volunteers, the first crop of plants has been planted from donations thankfully received from local gardeners.
