We operate a school farm out of a 2 hectare property opposite the main school on Daniels Rd. The garden supports the teaching of agriculture where students undertake studies around vegetable and fruit; poultry; sheep; cattle; horticulture and honey production (and because we maintain cattle, sheep, poultry, fruit and vegetable gardens and bees we undertake practical activities with all topics). We focus on sustainability; building productive soils and making connections with our local community.
Because we are located in an urban environment we don’t expect to turn our students into farmers (however, what we teach will set them up for such a pathway if they choose) but we do want our students to appreciate the effort it takes to produce a meal. Our classes are delivery based on practical experiences with minimal time spent in the classroom. Each term our students are tasked with producing an agricultural product.
